Mirage 720 Description

The Mirage Day Sail is an eye catching day sail catamaran that is in keeping with the company’s other attractive stylish yachts. It employs the Silhouette 760’s hulls that are known to need minimal power to attain good boat speeds. The hulls have good load carrying capabilities so even at gross with 120 passengers and a full complement of crew (6 tons) the yacht will still be buoyant.

Much thought has been given to create a layout that maximizes passenger safety. Virtually all sailing operations have been removed from the passenger areas and the captain and his sailing assistant have a panoramic view of their surrounds from their bridge vantage point. While under way passengers will be within the confines of the 900mm high walls surrounding accommodation deck which makes it impossible for them to fall over board accidentally.

The yacht has fore and aft boarding ladders for swimmers ease to get on and off the yacht. There is ample space available in which to position bins for the snorkelling gear. The wide sculptured transoms create a swim platform. The inboard sides of the transoms are sculptured to form a tender dock to make boarding of the yacht from a tender easy. The lowest steps in the transoms have been contoured to conceal the swim ladders when they are not in use.

Sea state allowing the Mirage Day Sail will effortlessly sail and reach speeds in the high teens (knots) to provide exhilarating yet comfortable sailing. It will regularly equal or better wind speed. Under power she should exceed of 12 kts with the recommended engines.

The recommended engines are 2 x Volvo D3-100 (110 HP) per hull driving a high tensile stainless steel shaft and three bladed propeller. A cost saving could be achieved by installing lower power engines if a small sacrifice in performance is acceptable.

The complete yacht will constructed from GRP sandwich construction and only the best grade, modern materials and practices will be used throughout. Generally polyester isothalic resin with E glass fibre reinforcement will be used. The core materials will be rigid PVC, end grained balsa, polyethylene honeycomb and marine plywood in high stress areas.

Every precaution will be taken to make the vessel maintenance free and robust. For osmosis protection the hulls will use a NPG gel coat and the outer skin will be laid up in a Vinyl ester epoxy resin. As a further precaution a propriety anti-osmosis epoxy barrier coat will be applied below the water line.

No attempt has been made to refine the layout of the passenger and crew accommodation facilities as each client will have specific requirements. Within the voluminous hulls there is ample space to incorporate passenger spacious bath room and change room facilities, a galley, provision storage and crew quarters as required.
